Liberal Vermont's Liberal Towns Vote to Arrest Cheney and Bush

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 03:22:54 PM PDT

The title sounds a bit silly, a bit reduntant, I know, but there's a method to my madness.

A Reuters article was published this morning noting the votes in the towns of Brattleboro and Marlboro in Vermont to have President Bush and Vice President Cheney arrested and handed over to authorities who would properly prosecute them.  What's interesting about this article is less the content than the particularly offhand manner in which the author implies that this is just a few crazy liberals in Vermont, a particularly liberal bastion of liberal New England.

Faux News "Democratic" Strategist is DINO - UPDATED

Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 01:34:00 PM PDT

I know this will come as a surprise to all Kossacks, but the preferred "Democratic" strategist of Faux News would appear to be a Democrat in name only (DINO).  Over the jump for more.

Injustice Served in Connecticut

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 07:17:03 AM PDT

Though this isn't about the Presidential primaries, or any of that business, I think this blatant miscarriage of justice deserves attention here at Daily Kos (and if someone has already posted on it, please let me know so I can delete this diary.)  I just learned about this horror at My Left Nutmeg, so I don't have a lot of analysis to add; my goal is simply to bring this to people's attention.

War on Christmas Comes to UK

A primary school in the UK has caused quite an uproar for renaming their Christmas Party and calling it a "Winter Party," instead.

Compulsory National Service

Mon Dec 04, 2006 at 04:14:19 AM PDT

I would like to make a proposal for a National Service Program (which I will refer to in the rest of this diary as "NSP" for ease).  The short and sweet version of it is this: for one year, starting after one graduates from high school, all Americans will be required to participate in an NSP.  Whether that means joining the military or taking part in the non-military part of my NSP is up to the individual, but either way, it will be compulsory.  I'll get into the nitty gritty below the fold.

Leading from the Middle: A Good Idea?

Wed May 10, 2006 at 10:05:40 AM PDT

(This is my first diary, so be gentle-ish... mostly, I want to hear where people disagree with me... agreement is nice, but there are definite holes in my argument, so I'd like to see those... assuming anybody reads this.)

I had a revelation today about the Democratic leadership, especially in the Senate, and how it's holding back the party. I'm a bit iffy on Senator Harry Reid. When he shows up ready to fight, he's fantastic, but a lot of the time, he seems far too comfortable just listening and letting the Republicans get their way. I was thinking about this, when it occurred to me that he had something in common with Daschle: He was from a state where being radical could get you in electoral trouble. Daschle was from South Dakota, as you may recall, and he would sometimes use impressive rhetoric to fight the Republicans, but mostly he just capitulated to them.
